I get asked a lot about the name Blue Buzz Botanicals. I love the color blue, all blue hues, AND I did attend college at UNC-Chapel Hill, but that's not where the name came from.
When I first decided that I wanted to become a beekeeper, I had a hardworking mentor who was helping a lady in her late 70s keep up her hives. It came to a point where he was doing most of the keeping, driving an hour one way to help her, and she decided it was time to give up this hobby. I know that had to be a hard decision for her to make, and I often think of how she felt seeing those beautiful blue hives leaving, as he drove off with them on the back of his grey truck. A lifetime of work disappearing before her eyes leaving behind memories of slinging and stinging. Those blue hives arrived on the farm the next day and I became their new keeper, not having a clue what I was doing. The bees will make a quick study out of you. Hehehe! This blog will be full of all the things they've taught me about how to care for them and about life in general. So, back to the name...the hives are BLUE, the bees will get you BUZZed, and the products of the hive and medicinal plants (Botanicals) marry each other so well. That's how Blue Buzz Botanicals came to be.
